Over the next few weeks, we’ll be spotlighting heartwarming stories of people and pets from Kinship Associates, an organization facilitating foster and adoption opportunities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
First up – it’s our very own Avani Patel, Product Marketing at Whistle Labs, and her foster puppy JJ, a 12-week old pitbull mix.
Why did you decide to foster?
In these crazy times, JJ has been an antidote to us feeling stir-crazy, helpless, and bored. We received a foster plea from the East Bay SPCA a few weeks ago and, given the current shelter-in-place situation, we knew we could dedicate the time and patience it would take to care for a puppy.
JJ is a sweet boy who is eager to please, so we’ve loved teaching him new tricks (he already knows “sit,” “down,” and “crawl!”). We worked on crate training and behavior modification for chewing, which is very typical for puppies. He also LOVES playing with our resident pup Twix, and the two of them spend hours together, playing or zonking out for naps due to said play.
How’s it going?
JJ was officially adopted on April 8th through the shelter’s “Love is Blind” adoption program. While we miss his energy dearly, we are so excited for him and his forever family!
Any advice for those thinking about fostering?
The first few days of bringing a foster into your home can be tough, especially as they adjust to their new environment. But with patience, time and care, the bond you build with your foster pup is incredibly rewarding!
