Scratching
Increased scratching is one of the strongest indicators of skin infections or allergies. It’s also the number one reason people bring their dogs to the vet.
Licking
Increased licking can indicate joint pain, skin irritations, high stress levels, boredom, and more.
Drinking habits
Drinking patterns may fluctuate based on diet, activity, and weather. In some cases, changes may also point to health issues like diabetes or a urinary tract infection.
Eating habits
Changes in eating habits may be linked to age, a new feeding time, or a new exercise routine. It can also indicate oral health issues, a metabolic disorder, high stress levels, and more.
Sleeping
Disrupted sleep without an explanation (i.e. a new home, changes in schedule, etc.) may be a sign that your dog is experiencing discomfort from an underlying health issue.
Fitness and activity
See if they’re getting enough exercise based on their breed, weight, and age. Set a personalized daily activity goal to keep them as healthy as possible.

I want to love it, I really do but the thing is the velcro is such a cheap design that even the buckle doesn’t help keep it in place and these fall off both my dogs, 2-3x a day and i’m stuck searching all over the house using the proximity sensor :/

Attachment problem.
Easy for Whistle to come off collar with vigorous shaking. I have talked about it before. Will include a photo of how I “fixed” it temporarily.

Excellent
I really love it! I can see what he is doing when and have increased his physical activity. My husband says I’m tracking him, but I now know if he took him for a walk and for how long. I like knowing the eating, drinking, scratching and licking data too. Corky, my pup, appears to have a seasonal allergy and this has actually shown that too as it is subsiding as the weather cools down.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a subscription to use Whistle™ Health?
Yes, you’ll need an annual plan so your Whistle™ Health can connect to the service needed to collect your pet’s health data.
How long will my Whistle™ Health battery last?
It can last up to two weeks on a single charge. We recommend charging once it hits 25%. Battery life is also affected by WiFi and network coverage, so keep that in mind if you have a shaky connection. Your USB charger will bring your Whistle™ Health back to a full charge in about 90 minutes.
How do you calculate my pet’s activity?
Technically speaking, we use a three-axis accelerometer to estimate the total amount of energy your pet used each minute. Then we use that energy estimate to determine if your dog is resting, wandering around the house, or in full squirrel chase mode.
Short answer: We learn from your pet’s behavior over time and use that data to understand their activity levels.
How do you arrive at health insights?
Short answer: sensors and a lot of measuring. Your Whistle™ Health has sensors that take 150 measurements of your dog’s motion every second. We then use our behaviour detection algorithms, courtesy of our partners at Pet Insight Project, to detect specific movements like scratching or licking.
How do you determine the distance my pet has traveled?
We use a device called a three-axis accelerometer. It senses how much your pet is moving, up to 50 times per second. We use that data from tens of thousands of pets to create an algorithm that accurately calculates a distance estimate.
Why can’t I see my dog’s data when they are home alone?
Whistle™ Health is a Bluetooth device, which means that it requires a close-proximity connection to your mobile phone in order to sync updates with the app. We recommend syncing often by opening your mobile app within eyesight of the Whistle™ Health device to get the most updated data about your pet.
You can think of your pet’s Whistle™ Health device as an always-on watchful companion that gathers your pet’s activities and syncs them all to your phone at once so you can get an updated picture of their overall health. It translates everything your dog has been doing throughout the day into an easy-to-digest format that makes it easy to track overall trends. Whistle™ Health speaks both “dog” and “data” fluently and keeps tabs on your pet’s activities so you don’t miss a thing.
Does the device have to be on a certain part of my dog’s neck to work?
Your Whistle™ Health will track your dog’s health and activity metrics accurately in any orientation, as long as it is attached to your dog’s collar and not another accessory like a harness or leash. Whistle’s algorithms account for 360-degree rotation around a dog’s neck to ensure every run, roll, and rub is captured.
How many days does my dog have to wear the Whistle™ Health before I can see results?
In order to establish a baseline of your dog’s unique behaviour and lifestyle, WHISTLE™ collects calibration data over a 7-day period. Once a baseline is established, we can then provide insights regarding any new changes in your dog’s behavior relative to the baseline.
