WHISTLE BECOMES FIRST PET HEALTH DEVICE TO SYNC WITH THE UP® BY JAWBONE® PLATFORM

New integration for leading pet health and activity monitor to help people better understand the relationship between pet ownership and personal wellness

SAN FRANCISCO – May 6, 2014Whistle, the makers of the leading pet health and activity monitor, today announced a new software integration with Jawbone, the makers of the UP wristband, app and data system that helps users learn about themselves to live better. The integration will provide pet owners with a clearer picture of how personal wellness and lifestyle is connected to the relationship with their pets.

To coincide with National Pet Week, data from Whistle will now be available to integrate into the UP App, allowing users to see how their wellness is distinctly tied to their pet's daily life. This new addition to the UP platform highlights the important role pets play in their owner's lives. It also encourages users to take steps to increase the bond with their pet and enjoy a happy, active lifestyle together.

"Whistle believes pets have the power to improve our lives, and that we can be happier and healthier the more time we spend with them," said Steve Eidelman, co-founder and head of product at Whistle. "Integrating our data with UP lets pet owners see the impact they have on their pet's wellness, while seeing how it ties back to their own activity for the first time. By collecting this information, we're creating the largest set of data correlating human and pet activity to help us to better understand the true benefits of animals in our daily lives."

Whistle is the first pet health and activity monitoring device to be introduced into the UP platform. The device, worn on a dog's existing collar, captures and classifies movement across a range of activities including resting, walking, playing, running, swimming and general activity. Through the integration users can begin tracking important details about their pet in addition to their own health and wellness. This integration provides:

  • Automatic data syncing – By connecting Whistle with the owner's UP App, users have the ability to see shared activity with their pet throughout the day.
  • Intelligent activity selection – By communicating with a user's phone through Bluetooth, Whistle intelligently picks out activities a dog and its owner have done together. Surfacing these joint activities in the UP App provides a more complete picture of the connection between daily activity with a user's pet and overall health.
  • Information to help drive meaningful changes – UP and Whistle provide the ability to correlate the health and activity data of pets and their owners, empowering users to make significant habit changes to improve their daily lives.

"We are making it easier for people to see the valuable impacts of owning a pet and the improved quality of life that comes from that relationship," said Travis Bogard, vice president of product management and strategy for Jawbone. "People have always had the notion that pets can help individuals live healthier, more active lives, but until now there has been very little access to specific insights around this topic. By integrating data from Whistle, we'll be able to see the trends in healthy habits of dog owners."

Available on May 6, 2014 Members of the UP Community can connect to Whistle from the UP App Gallery. Whistle is available for $129 in PetSmart stores in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, as well as online at www.Whistle.com.
